UP infant dies in Valley; family refuses autopsy

A tourist family from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh declined the request of police to go for a postmortem after an 11-months old baby died in Pahalgam hotel, they were staying in, in the Kashmir valley, the other day.

Police sources told Democratic Accent that a 15-member family from Prayagraj had arrived in Pahalgam hill station of South Kashmir where 11- months old baby fell ill.

She was taken to Primary Health Centre Pahalgam where doctors declared her brought dead.

The deceased baby was identified as Cherry Sonkar, daughter of Ghanshyam Sonkar, a resident of Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said that police was keen to go for medico-legal formalities as the mother of the baby had also died over a couple of months ago.

Sources added that family termed the death of the baby as natural and refused to conduct postmortem on the baby.
