UP Corona meter: 80 dead, 6,239 test positive

A total of 80 more people died of COVID-19 while 6,239 tested positive for the disease in Uttar Pradesh in last 24 hours, taking the fatality toll to 4,429 and infection tally to 3,12,036 on Sunday in the state, said officials.

The count of active COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 68,122, while 2,39,485 people have been cured of the disease till date, said Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad on Sunday.

Out of the 80 fatalities, Gorakhpur reported 11 deaths, Lucknow 10, Kanpur seven, Allahabad six, Meerut five, Badaun three, and Varanasi and Maharajganj three each, said Prasad.

Out of the fresh cases of infection, Lucknow reported 847, Allahabad 370, Kanpur 338, Ghaziabad 267, Gorakhpur 234, Meerut 233 and Varanasi 224, the UP government said in a bulletin.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, meanwhile on Sunday, aksed police and civil administration to use public address system to spread awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and the precautions to avoid it.

The chief minister gave this direction to officials while chairing a meeting of senior government officials at his residence.

“Enforcement action against those who are not wearing masks should be taken amicably. The main aim of this is to make the people understand the importance of wearing masks during corona time,” he said.

The chief minister also directed officials to ensure that there is no black marketing of oxygen in the state. He asked them to take strict action against those indulging in black marketing of the gas, said a UP government statement.
