Two transporters held for assaulting driver

ASI assaulted in Rajasthan's Chittorgarh

Nagpur:

Two transporters were arrested on Sunday for allegedly brutally assaulting a driver employed by them in their office in Wadi area here, police said.

The accused are identified as Akhil Pohankar and Amit Thakre, both residents of Nagpur. Another accused is absconding, an official said.

Police came to know about the incident after a video of the assault started doing rounds on social media.

According to police, the victim driver, Vicky Aaglawe, had spent Rs 30,000 given to him by Pohankar and Thakre for transporting a consignment to Trivandrum and disappeared.

“The duo somehow traced the driver, brought him to their office on Sunday morning and thrashed him,” he said.

The video purportedly shows a man, clad only in an underpants, hung with a rope tied to the office ceiling and being beaten up with a belt and sticks.

Taking cognisance of the video, police persuaded the driver to lodge an FIR.

Pohankar and Thakre have been booked under various sections of the Indian Pence Code (IPC) including attempt to murder.
