Thumri Festival to send message of harmony, brotherhood

New Delhi:

The 9th edition of the Thumri Festival will aim at spreading the message of harmony and brotherhood through classical music performances, Delhi government’s Art, Culture and Language department announced Friday.

Organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad, the festival will open on September 23 at the Kamani Auditorium here.

“Thumri Festival is being organised on a grand scale for the past few years. The enthusiasm of the audience to attend such musical events is a sign that our effort to promote the Hindustani classical music is being paid off.

“Culture is the best way to send the message of harmony and brotherhood to the people because Delhi has a rich classical music culture. I believe that this program will not only give a chance to people to explore the world of Thumri, but also ensure that we reach out to people from across the spectrum,” Sisodia said in a statement.

The three-day musical festival will showcase the melodious journey of Hindustani classical music through performances by several eminent artistes and their exponential disciples.

The event will open with a performance by classical vocalist Devashish Dey, followed by a jugalbandi by vocalist Debapriya Adhikary and sitarist Samanwaya Sarkar.

Performances by national award-winning singer Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar, and vocalists Sarathi Chatterjee, Ganesh Prasad Mishra, and Ashwini Bhide Deshpande are also part of the line-up.

The classical music festival will conclude with performances by renowned artistes like Pt Rajendra Sijuar, Dhanashree Pandit Rai and Pt Chhannulal Mishra.
