‘Step Out At Night’ event to make women feel safe on streets: North Delhi Municipal Corporation

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North DMC) is going to celebrate ‘Step Out At Night’ event   at Azmal Khan Road, Karol Bagh at night from 7 pm to 11 pm on 5th and 6th December, 2019 to make women feel safe and secure on streets.

Commissioner of North DMC Varsha Joshi in a Press Conference here on said that we are going to celebrate it for the women so that women should feel free and safe in the streets even in the night.

She said that the North MCD opens up Ajmal Khan Road to enable women to take up the space which is rightly theirs. Shopping, food and dance festival will be hosted by women at Ajmal Khan Road.

She added that this festivity is to celebrate pedestrianisation of Azmal Khan Road . Anyone can walk on the street.

Deputy commissioner   Akriti Sagar said that for decades women have been asked to stay at home at night, return to home by 7 pm, by our fathers and husbands. The time has come to take back the night and live and move freely without any fear. Idea is just to have fun at night doing what we love the most be it shopping, eating, gossiping, exercising, playing, singing, showing off our talents in a safe place. Men are  also welcome, only if accompanied by woman.

Activities hosted by women on Ajmal Khan Road shall include cultural activities, Cult and Zumba Fitness sessions, dance performance, street play, quawwali, traditional Indian dance performances, street play, street art, standup comedy, kids play area, free health check-up, street games, pledge board, awareness zone, exhibitions, talent hunt, creative services, movie screenings, etc.

This event will be organised in association with Delhi Police, DC Revenue, Raahgiri foundation, Sahitya Kala Parishad, UN Women, Jagori NGO and Market association.

During the press conference SDM Karol Bagh,  Ankur, member of Raahgiri foundation, Sarika, Official of UN women,   Salina Wilson and  member of Jagori NGO were also present.
