Los Angeles:
Actor Stanley Tucci is heading to AMC Studios for an adventure thriller series titled “La Fortuna”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy Award nominee will star as a buccaneering treasure hunter with Spanish actor Alvaro Mel, known for the show “A Different View”.
The upcoming drama comes from “The Others” director Alejandro Amenabar.
AMC Studios is co-producing the project with Spain’s Movistar+ and MOD Picture.
Amenabar, who has co-written the show with Alejandro Hernandez, will direct all six episodes.
Inspired by the graphic novel “El Tesoro del Cisne Negro” (The Treasure of the Black Swan), “La Fortuna” follows Alex Ventura (Mel), a young Spanish diplomat who unintentionally becomes the leader of a mission to recover sunken treasure stolen by Frank Wild (Tucci), a notorious adventurer.
“These days shooting a series such as this one is a big challenge that all our team takes on with enormous enthusiasm and responsibility. ‘La Fortuna’ is fundamentally about optimism and the will to fight.
“Alex Ventura’s journey is also ours. We aim to fully succeed, but above all we hope to offer the audience a good dose of excitement and entertainment next year,” said Amenabar.
“Cable Girls” star Ana Polvorosa is attached to play Lucia, Alex’s colleague.
Clarke Peters of “Da 5 Bloods” fame, T’Nia Miller, Karra Elejalde, Manolo Solo, Blanca Portillo and Pedro Casablanc also round the cast.
Production begins this week in Spain and will move to North America next year, with a premiere date targeted for later in 2021.
