New Delhi:
Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi met Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday to discuss issues related to child welfare.
The Union minister posted on Twitter a picture of her and Satyarthi, in which the nobel laureate can be seen presenting his book to her.
“Met Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi ji & discussed issues related to welfare of children,” Irani wrote on the microblogging site.
On July 12, Satyarthi praised Irani for defining child pornography by bringing any sexually explicit digital or computer generated content involving children under its purview .
“Defining child pornography under #POCSO is the 1st definitive step towards ending this crime. Congrats Smriti Irani and WCD Ministry. I wish India takes lead in demanding a legally binding UN convention against online child sexual abuse that I have been working on since last year,” he had tweeted.
The new definition states that child pornography is “any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a child which includes photograph, video, digital or computer generated image indistinguishable from an actual child and an image created, adapted or modified but appear to depict a child”.
According to a ministry spokesperson, the initiative to define child pornography has been taken by WCD Minister Smriti Irani to convey the message that from now there will be zero tolerance for child pornography and for that reason definition of child pornography was essential.
