RGCIRC organizes Free Cancer Screening Camp for Women

Continuing their ‘Fight Against Cancer’ campaign, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center (RGCIRC), Niti Bagh, New Delhi has organized a special screening camp for women. The camp will continue till 30th November. With a tagline ‘Early Detection is the only Key to beat Cancer’, the camp is emphasizing on regular screening to overcome cancer, since Cancer can be cured, if detected early.

Team of Doctors, led by Dr. Gauri Kapoor, Medical Director, RGCIRC, Niti Bagh, is interacting with the women who are registering for the camp and providing vital information about self-test, regular screening, prevention of cancer, early detection of cancer, information about pre-cancer symptoms to make sure, they are at ease while considering the tests & screening.

The camp is offering free PAP Smear Test, Clinical Breast Examination, Oral Screening and Mammogram & CBC examination on Doctor’s advice. Talking about the camp, Dr. Gauri Kapoor said, ‘in today’s fast paced life, we are ignoring our health and falling victim to several lifestyle diseases including Cancer. In particular, Breast Cancer, which used to be detected largely in women of 40-50 years, is now very common among the young women. At RGCIRC, we are striving to Fight Against Cancer, and various awareness campaigns are being initiated, apart from the awareness we are also organising various activities with a motive to help them understand that Cancer is fatal but it’s curable and one can lead a good healthy life post Cancer,” she added.

Surgical Oncology Consultant at RGCIRC Niti Bagh, Dr Leena Dadhwal, said, “that through the camp, our goal is to make more women aware so that they can come forward for screening and be advised for adequate treatment if they are found positive for any symptoms. She explained that screening is one of the most effective ways to detect the disease at an early stage and it helps control cancer with minimal treatment.

Dr Dadhwal shared some insights on self examination and other possible ways for women to prevent cancer. Self-Examination helps to look for changes in terms of shape, size, colour, contour, and firmness which should be learned by all women to get breasts tested properly, she emphasize. Dr. Dadhwal said, in most women, annual screening mammograms are advised after the age of 40. However, in women who are at high risk, it is advisable to have screening mammograms done early.
