Heavy rainfall in several parts of Kerala

Most places in Uttar Pradesh received light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers on Friday bringing down the mercury in the state, the meteorological department said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked the officials to arrange bonfires and other arrangements at shelter homes in the wake of the cold wave.

Shahjahanpur and Sambhal received a rainfall of 8 cm each, followed by Meja (7 cm), Hardoi, Rampur, Bilar and Moradabad (5 cm each), Moradabad and Bijnore (4 cm each), Allahabad, Sitapur, Pratapgarh, Etah, Pilibhit and Badaun (3 cm each), the MeT department said.

Fatehgarh in Farrukhabad district was the coldest place in the state at 9.3 degrees Celsius.

The MeT department has forecast rain and thundershowers and lightning at many places in the state on Saturday.

The chief minister, in his directive, said, “The officers should ensure that no one should sleep in the open. They should take help of people’s representatives in distributing free blankets and making arrangements in shelter homes.
