Pondy witnesses drop in daily coronavirus cases

Puducherry saw a slight decline in fresh COVID-19 cases as 507 infections were reported in the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Thursday.

Puducherry region accounted for 366, followed by Karaikal 98, Yanam 20 and Mahe 23.

The new cases were identified at the end of examination of 8,215 swabs in all the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

While active cases were 6,705, 646 patients were discharged during last twenty-four hours from hospitals, Director of Health S Mohan Kumar said.

The total case load in the Union Territory rose to 1,11,255 after addition of 507 cases.

Nine more people succumbed to the viral infection raising the toll to 1,657.

The deceased were in the age groups ranging between 38 and 68 years and four of them had no co morbidities.

The Director said the test positivity rate was 6.17 percent while the fatality and recovery rates were 1.49 percent and 92.48 percent, respectively.

The health department has tested 11,38,391 swabs and found that 9,79,893 were negative.
