Odisha reports 186 new COVID-19 cases, two more deaths

Odisha’s COVID-19 caseload mounted to 3,32,949 on Friday as 186 more people tested positive for the infection, while two fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,898, a health department official said.

Of the new cases, 108 were reported from quarantine centres and 78 detected during contact tracing.

Sundargarh district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 35, followed by Sambalpur (20) and Angul (18).

Four districts- Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal and Malkangiri- did not register any new case since Thursday.

Taking to Twitter, the Health and Family Welfare department said, “Regret to inform the demise of two COVID positive patients while under treatment in hospitals.”

The two fatalities were reported from Khurda and Sundargarh.

Odisha now has 2,166 active cases, while 3,28,832 people have recovered from the disease so far.

Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, accounted for 333 COVID-19 deaths followed by Ganjam (248), Sundargarh (170), Cuttack (140) and Puri (117).

Fifty-three coronavirus patients have died in the state due to comorbidities, the official said.

The state has conducted over 73.19 lakh sample tests for COVID-19, including 27,540 on Thursday, and the positivity rate now stands at 4.55 per cent.
