NR continues to maintain essential goods supply chain with its freight services

New Delhi:

The Northern Railway continues its freight services to deliver essential commodities lifting 53 % food grains alone during the lockdown period.

Maintaining continuity in supply chain was stiffer on account of tough working conditions due to lockdown in the Nation, said a release. Loading requirement increased from average 15 rakes per day to up to 51 rakes in a day over the Northern Railway.

However, since lockdown, the Northern Railways is at the forefront in supplying the food grains to States. Northern Railways team worked hard 24×7 to ensure unloading/ loading at terminals despite shortage of labour / trucks & restrictions on movements.

As a result, all time highest record single day loading of 51 rakes of food grain was achieved on 09-04-2020.. Approx. 53% of the food grain loading has been done alone by Northern Railway during the lockdown period.

It has loaded rakes 573 of food grain (1.57 million tons) which is 0.90 million tons higher (135% higher) than previous financial year and dispatched 15.75 Lakh tons of food grains which is 137 % higher than last year.

The Northern Railway has formed long lead long hauls of loaded Annapurna 5000 tons food grain trains. Such 25 Annapurna trains have been formed and run by NR across the country to meet the demand.

Social distancing and sanitization is also being ensured, keeping in view the safety of the employees and the working people.
