No cash acceptance for toll payment of commercial vehicles entering Delhi from Sept 13: SDMC

New Delhi:

Cash will not be accepted for payment of Environment Compensation Charge (ECC) and MCD toll at any of the 13 toll plazas for entry of commercial vehicles into Delhi from midnight of September 13.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has advised transporters  to use the easy online recharge facility (website or APP) or visit the 28 POS centers, set up for registration and for recharge. The recharge facility will be available after registration.

Bhure Lal,  chairman, the  Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) , in the presence of member,  EPCA, Sunita Narain and additional commissioner, SDMC,  andhir Sahay, on Tuesday  launched a website – www.ecctagsdmc.com to  resolve  the problems being faced by the commercial vehicle owners/drivers in getting their commercial vehicles pre-registered for RFID tag and getting recharged to enable them to make payment through credit/debit card and net banking.

Speaking on this occasion   Lal stated that EPCA is keen to make the RFID project fruitful to enable it to curb air pollution, minimize wastage of fuel while waiting at toll plazas, overcome crowd at toll plazas and make toll plazas all the time through for entry of commercial vehicles into Delhi.

Narain expressed hope that the things will become more and smoother day by day as SDMC and EPCA are working together to make entire process fast and reliable.

This project, once fully implemented, will become India’s first congestion charging system, where payment is cashless.

Till today 3,06,812 tags have been sold, but a major cause of concern is that all but 429 transactions has been made by cash.  Hence, the EPCA and SDMC came out with a solution to provide an easy and helpful platform to get commercial vehicles pre-registered so that  Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

tags could be procured in a hassle free manner and recharge facility could be provided online.

The new website will have 3 portals- one for pre-registration, one for consumers and third one for POSs.  The recharge facility by cash or credit will continue to be available at POSs at 28 places. Henceforth documents for pre-registration of commercial vehicles shall not be accepted through email ID for registration of RFID Tag.
