Mumbai:

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Dharavi in Mumbai for allegedly firing at and injuring his sister’s husband on Sunday morning, police said.

Afridi Sayyed shot two bullets at Rizwan Kasim Shah Patel (29), one of which got lodged in the latter’s head and the other went past his body, an official said.

“Sayyed has told us Patel already had two wives when he married the former’s sister. The accused’s family has not been on good terms with Patel and have attacked him earlier.

Patel, associated with a political party, has several cases against his name, including a triple talaq case lodged by one of his wives,” the official said.

Sayyed came to Patel’s home claiming he wanted to gift a burqa to his sister, and then fired at his brother-in-law, the official said.

“Patel’s elder brother Irfan and a person named Javed Khan have been detained in connection with the firing. Patel is undergoing treatment at Sion Hospital and is out of danger as per doctors,” he said.

Senior Inspector Ramesh Mangre of Dharavi police station said Sayyed was arrested for attempt to murder and the pistol used in the firing has been seized.
