Moradabad (UP):
Four of the seven people allegedly involved in the murder of a man who had protested against the harassment of his minor daughter have been arrested here, police said on Thursday.
Hariom (45) was beaten to death in his house by seven people from his village Maheshpura on Tuesday after he filed a police complaint against the harassment of his daughter.
According to reports, the police failed to take action on the complaint filed by Hariom. The main accused, Vikas (23), along with his six accomplices, killed Hariom after they came to know about the complaint, they said.
An FIR was lodged in the murder case and four of the accused-Rajbeer, Vikas, Sarma and Amar Singh-were arrested on Wednesday. They were also produced before the chief judicial magistrate, police said.
SSP Moradabad Prabhakar Choudhury said efforts are on to arrest the remaining accused in the case.
He also said strict action will be taken against the erring police officials.
Circle officer (highway) Ramsagar has started an inquiry in the case, the SSP said.
