Lion cub rescued in Gir

Gujarat: Two lion cubs found dead near Gir Sanctuary

A two-year-old lion cub, found in emaciated condition, was rescued from Gir National Park and Sanctuary in Gujarat on Friday, a senior forest official said.

D T Vasavada, Chief Conservator of Forest, told PTI that the cub was rescued with the help of a specialised ambulance van.

The cub was found to be very weak and needing treatment, he said.

The ambulance, called ‘lion ambulance’, is fitted with various emergency treatment equipment and has cost around Rs one crore, he said.

The cub was handed over to Sakkarbag Zoo in Junagadh for treatment.

As per a 2015 census, there were 523 lions in Gir Sanctuary.
