A human skull and bones were found on Friday when firefighters were dousing a blaze at a field in West Bengal’s Howrah district, officials said.

Dry shrubs on a field, off the National Highway 6 in Bagnan’s Chandrapur area, suddenly caught fire in the afternoon, they said.

Three fire tenders were sent and it took around two hours to douse the flames, officials said.

During the firefighting operations, a human skull and some bones were found, following which police were informed, they said.

Police said that the skull and the bones have been sent for forensic tests and further investigations are underway.
