Yellow weather warning issued for Himachal Pradesh

A yellow warning has been issued for Friday and Saturday in Himachal Pradesh, where several areas are receiving heavy rainfall, the meteorological (MeT) department said on Tuesday.

Several parts of the state have received light to heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours.

Sujanpur Tihra received the highest 110 mm rainfall since Monday evening, followed by Guler 103 mm, Nagrota Suriyan 96 mm, Gohar 69 mm, Dehra Gopipur 67 mm, Mandi 47 mm, Una 34 mm, Palampur 33 mm, Nadaun 32 mm, Jogindernagar 30 mm, Dharamshala 27 mm, Nahan 25 mm and Chamba 21 mm.

Tourist places like Kufri witnessed 12 mm rainfall, followed by Dalhousie 8 mm, capital Shimla 7 mm and Manali 3 mm, the MeT centre in Shimla said.

The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Bilaspur at 32.5 degrees Celsius, whereas the lowest temperature was in Kufri at 13 degrees Celsius.

The MeT department has forecast rain in the state till August 19, whereas it issued a fresh yellow weather warning for heavy rains on August 16 and August 17.

Heavy rains are likely to occur in the plains and low and mid hills of the state on Friday and Saturday, an official said.

The department issues colour-coded warnings to alert the public ahead of severe or hazardous weather, with ‘yellow’ indicating least danger.
