Goa Church wing, others hold anti-CAA rally in Margao

COVID surge, vaccine shortages spread beyond India’s borders

Panaji:

An anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protest was held on Friday in Margao where participants demanded that the state Assembly pass a resolution against the recently-passed law.

The protest, held at Lohia Maidan, was organised by the Goa Church’s Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) along with National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (NCHRO) and Concerned Citizens for Goa.

Among those who addressed the rally were Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, NCP MLA Churchill Alemao, Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar and writer Oscar Rebello.

Kamat said CAA and the National Register of Citizens were unconstitutional, and hit out at the BJP for ignoring street protests against them.

Alemao said CAA was tarnishing the communal harmony of the country.

The resolutions adopted at the rally called for the scrapping of CAA and dropping plans for the NRC and National Population Register exercises.
