Aurangabad:

The city police on Wednesday registered an offence against two doctors for allegedly spreading rumours about a coronavirus patient taking treatment at a hospital, an official said.

The complaint was lodged by the hospital which is currently treating the only coronavirus positive patient in Aurangabad, he said.

“Rumours were doing rounds on social media regarding a woman taking treatment for coronavirus in Aurangabad, following which the hospital administration complained to Cidco MIDC police station,” Police inspector Vitthal Pote told reporters.

“A non-cognisable offence was registered against the two doctors for spreading rumours,” he said.

The offence was registered under IPC section 505 (2) and section 188 for violating the Epidemic Diseases Act, he said.
