Bollywood celebrates Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan

Superstars Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and other Bollywood celebrities on Thursday celebrated the country’s 73rd Independence Day with fervour, pride and enthusiasm.

The celebrities took to social media to post their photographs with the national flag with Salman Khan taking a rather unique route to present the flag.

The “Bharat” actor uploaded an old photograph of his with brothers Arbaaz and Sohail, where each of them are wearing T-shirts of each shade of the tricolour.

“May you prosper and grow forever,” Salman wrote in the caption.

Besides wishing Independence Day, Aamir also celebrated Raksha Bandhan which falls on the same day this year.

“Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day and a very happy Raksha Bandhan. Love,” he posted.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “15th August our Independence Day… JAI HIND! Our pride our honour our celebration… EVER…”

Filmmaker Karan Johar saluted the bravery of the country’s freedom fighters.

“We salute and applaud the brave men and women who fought valiantly for our independence….we celebrate a country with the largest heart….JAI HIND #HappyIndependenceDayIndia” he tweeted

Varun Dhawan wrote, “Wishing everybody a very happy #IndependenceDay. To all my brothers and sisters all across our beautiful country we are the largest democracy in the world where so many beautiful religions live in harmony. Let’s show the world mile sur mera tumhara toh sur bane humara #jaihind”

“May our tricolour always fly high. It is a proud day for all of us! Jai Hind ???? #HappyIndependenceDay,” posted actor Arjun Kapoor.

Newly crowned National Award winners Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal shared their respective photos with the national flag on Twitter, using the hashtag #HappyIndependenceDay.

Singer Adnan Sami, who turned 48 on Thursday, also celebrated the occasion.

“Here’s Wishing Everyone HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY with lots of Love & Duas… #JaiHind!!!” he wrote on Twitter.

Actor Emraan Hashmi said he is proud to be an Indian.

“Happy independence day! Proud to be an Indian. Jai hind #IndependenceDayIndia” he posted.

Actor R Madhavan celebrated three festival on Thursday — Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan and Brahmin custom of Avani Avittam.

“Wish you all a very happy INDEPENDENCE DAY, RAKSHA BANDHAN AND AVANI AVITTAM. Prayers for peace and prosperity for ALL in this world continues,” he tweeted.

He also shared a photo of his with son Vedaant who is seen tying the actor the rakhi from his sister.

“When your son ties Rakhi to you because your Sister sent it to him. Hahaha… WISH YOU ALL A VERY HAPPY RAKSHA BANDHAN,” Madhavan wrote in the caption.

Former actor and producer Twinkle Khanna also greeted her fans on Twitter.

“Happy Independence Day! ‘For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others’ #Mandela #happyindependenceday” she tweeted.

Actor Yami Gautam said, “May their be peace prosperity and may we always rejoice in true sense, the blessings our country has given us! #Happyindependenceday”

Preity Zinta said Independence Day in an occasion where every Indian should show how they can make the country a better place for everyone.

“Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Indians. Today let’s not ask what our country can do for us but what we can do for our country so lets pledge to always be united & progressive & put India first. #JaiHind #HappyIndependenceday #15Aug” she tweeted.

Other celebrities who posted their Independence Day messages include legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Farhan Akhtar and his father Javed Akhtar and superstar Akshay Kumar.
