BJP-ruled MCD is ‘looting’ people by bringing new proposals and all this money ‘goes in the pockets’ of BJP leaders, alleged senior AAP leader and MLA from Kalkaji Atishi on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters she said that the BJP ruled SDMC and its standing committee has ‘proposed to increase’ the surface-level parking rates by 100%, that is from ₹20 per hour to ₹40 per hour.
“Ahead of the MCD elections of 2022, the BJP ruled authority is pulling all the strings to rob the hard-earned money of the citizens of Delhi, especially in these trying times of the pandemic when several people have either lost their jobs or had to face massive pay-cuts,” Atishi claimed.
She further claimed that BJP is well aware of the fact that ‘they will be wiped out’ from the forthcoming elections since the citizens of Delhi are evidently ‘disappointed’ with their work and the many such unnecessary taxation policies that they (MCD) are implementing to ‘extract money’ from the people of Delhi.
Atishi mentioned that when the BJP ruled MCD increases such taxes, they do not utilise it for the welfare of the people of Delhi.
“We have witnessed this every month that MCD says that it cannot pay the salaries of sweepers, and Safai Karamcharis. They say that they don’t have the money to pay the salaries of teachers, doctors, and nurses. So, if they have increased property taxes, commercial taxes, parking rates, property transfer taxes, where is all that money going? They are keeping all of it in their pockets and enforcing corruption.
“In the last year, SDMC has given monetary benefits to only one head, and that is: giving every councillor a fund of ₹1 crore. Thus, it is clear that in the era of the pandemic when the people of Delhi had to face several financial blows in terms of lay-offs, shutting down of businesses, pay-cuts, and whatnot, SDMC is not just increasing taxes, but also giving unnecessary money to its councillors. They want these councillors to go and rob people, cheat them, and extract their hard-earned money, which justifies the amount of corruption that they are doing as this is the last year,” she asserted.
Atishi further stated that the Aam Aadmi Party demands the BJP ruled SDMC to repeal this recommendation of increasing surface parking rate. “We want them to take back this recommendation, and the SDMC must not approve it, for it shall be extremely upsetting for the people of Delhi,” she concluded.
