Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt Ltd to handle bio-medical waste from quarantined homes: North DMC

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (North DMC) has engaged Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt. Ltd to handle bio-medical waste (BMW) from quarantined homes.

The Biotic Waste Solutions Pvt. Ltd, an agency authorized by Delhi Pollution Control Committee, started collecting, transport, treat and dispose the BMW from quarantined homes under the jurisdiction of North DMC. The agency is doing the job as per Bio-Medical Waste Management rules 2016.

For the purpose, six closed type auto tippers have been deployed in North DMC’s six zones. The garbage collected from quarantine homes is transported to the disposal facility of the agency at SSI Industrial area G.T. Karnal Road for incineration.

The sanitation staff of North DMC is assisting and coordinating with staff of the agency to identify quarantined homes. This service has been started since 29.03.2020.

The North DMC’s Sanitation department is also assisting the district administration in quarantine facility set up at Narela. Besides above, outdoor areas surrounding quarantine camps/homes upto radius of 500 m is being disinfected by spraying sodium hypochlorite solution through water tankers. Public Places like bus shelters, benches of parks, open gyms, main gates and railings of hospitals are also sanitized regularly.

While public conveniences under the jurisdiction of North DMC are being cleaned and sanitized 2-3 times daily with sodium hypochlorite solution.

To maintain the sanitation of the area 384 auto tippers have been deployed for door to door garbage collection. Moreover there is less requirement due to partial closure of Markets/commercial areas. The total garbage lifted and transported to landfill site is 3000 MT per day approx.

The North DMC has 27338 numbers of ‘swachta karamcharies’, out of which 2491 ‘swachta karamcharies’ who are above 55 years of age are exempted from duty and are asked to stay at home. 50 % of remaining are asked to perform duties on alternate days.
