Anti-plastic campaign launched across national capital

New Delhi:

Different organizations including municipal corporations launched anti –plastic campaign here Wednesday.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) launched the “My 10 Kg Plastic Campaign” in collaboration with the Indian Plastic Control Association  (IPCA) and Dabur India Limited at EDMC  headquarters  at Udyog Sadan, Patparganj.

Among others chairman of standing committee,  Sandeep Kapoor; leader of house,   Nirmal Jain; chairman of DEMS committee,   K.K Aggrawal; commissioner, Dr. Dilraj Kaur; director-in- chief,  P.C Meena; chief engineer,  Pradeep Khandelwal and other officials concerned  from EDMC,   the IPCA   and Dabur India Limited were also present.

Kapoor  speaking on this occasion    said that the “My 10 Kg Plastic Campaign” is a unique initiative by the  corporation which requires the cooperation of the citizens of East Delhi to succeed, appealing to the citizens not to use signal use plastic and not to throw the plastic waste as well, but to collect it and hand it over to the east corporation so that, plastic waste can be disposed in proper way.

He also urged all religious institutions  not to use disposable plastic and thermocol products, but to create their Bartan Bandar.

Meanwhile, the ‘Plastic Waste Shramdan Campaign’ was   launched by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC ) under Swachhta hi Sewa initiative. It has been decided to ensure large participation of citizens in this drive  .

Commissioner   Gyanesh Bharti stated that the  Plastic Waste Shramdan campaign is to be taken ahead with the same zeal and spirit which helped in making Swachhta hi Sewa Abhiyan successful under Swachh Bharat initiative.

Commissioner Bharti   in a meeting of issued clear instructions to make week long plastic waste shramdan campaign beginning from 21st October 2019 result oriented. He added that single use plastic is not only detrimental to environment but also harmful to the health of citizens.

The chairman of the standing committee, North DMC, Jai Prakash, said that North DMC is committed towards the campaign “Say No to Plastic” in its jurisdiction. He said that both wings of North DMC, deliberative and executive are dedicated towards the drive to mobilise the masses to discourage plastic specially one time use plastic .

Commissioner, North DMC, Varsha Joshi,   convened a  meeting of all senior officials concerned. She was informed that about 500 Institutional buildings / parks can be developed as plastic free zones which can be increased in phase manner.

Joshi directed the officials concerned  that the awareness campaign in any form must continue to involve the public to discourage the use of one time plastic.
