Ahmedabad reported 225 COVID-19 cases on Monday, the highest for any district in Gujarat, taking its count to 45,568, an official said.
It also accounted for three of the five COVID-19 deaths that took place during the day in the state, he added.
The toll in Ahmedabad district is now 1,935, while the number of people discharged is 40,286, including 225 on Monday, the official said.
“Ahmedabad city accounted for 210 of the new cases and 201 of the people discharged, while these figures for the rural part of the district were 15 and 24 respectively,” he added.
With a surge in cases over the past few days, 90.8 per cent of beds, or 2,003 out of 2,206, in 71 private hospitals requisitioned by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation are occupied, officials said.
The Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said in ICUs with ventilator, 25 beds are available and 146 occupied.
“In isolation wards, 81 beds are available and 761 occupied. In the 1,200-bed COVID facility at Ahmedabad civil hospital, 581 beds are occupied, with 134 patients admitted in a single day on Sunday, of which 91 are serious,” officials said.
The city’s west zone, with 483 active cases, overtook north-west zone with 468, while south-west has 437 active cases and south 427.
