Lucknow:
Twenty more people died from the novel coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh, taking toll to 7,500 on Friday, while the tally rose to 5.22 lakh with 2,840 new cases, an official said.
There are 23,357 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and 4.91 lakh people have recovered after 2,220 more people recuperated, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters here.
The recovery rate is 94.08 per cent and 10,395 of the active cases are in home isolation, 2,167 admitted to private hospitals and the rest are undergoing treatment in government hospitals, Prasad said.
The state recorded 2,840 new infections and the number of cases has reached 5,21,988. The death toll has gone up to 7,500. On Thursday, the total samples tested was over 1.61 lakh and 1.76 crore tests have been conducted so far, Prasad said, appealing to people to remain cautious in the wake of a surge in cases in Delhi.
There were 20 more deaths, including four in Lucknow, three in Etawah and two in Allahabad districts. The new cases include 382 in Lucknow, 255 in Ghaziabad, 249 in Meerut and 162 from Kanpur, according to a bulletin.
Lucknow has registered 954 deaths so far, Kanpur 761, Meerut 375 and Varanasi 362, it added.
